Education Grants
Unlocking opportunities in open payments through education and student innovation
The Interledger Foundation backs universities and students working on the future of open payments. Our education grants fund student-led projects, curriculum development, and research in open payment systems, with a focus on interoperability, digital financial access, and expanding participation in the digital economy. From campus hackathons to new fintech courses, we fund work that builds knowledge and vital skills in this emerging field.
Mini-grants for student-led projects
Through our Interledger on Campus program, we offer up to $5,000 to students in university clubs running hackathons, workshops, and peer learning events to explore Open Payments and financial inclusion. Rolling applications open March 16 – July 31, 2026.
Institutional grants for curriculum and research
Our flagship education program, NextGen, offers higher education institutions up to $50,000 to develop curriculum, research projects, and training programs in open payment technologies and inclusive digital finance. Applications open later in 2026.
