Privacy Expert & Digital Rights Advocate

Stephanie Perrin

Stephanie Perrin is a privacy and ethics consultant who retired after 35 years working in communications policy for the Canadian government. Her work focuses on privacy protection, digital rights, and ethical governance in emerging financial and technological systems.

Ambassador Project

Stephanie’s project focused on researching appropriate privacy and human rights frameworks and tools for those implementing the Interledger protocol. Her work examined how privacy protections and ethical considerations can be integrated into financial technologies while supporting secure and transparent payment systems.

What Inspired Her Work

"Consumers have very little knowledge of how financial systems worked prior to the inception of Fintech solutions. The demand for identity verification means personal data is being harvested and monetized, but there appears to be no common agreement on privacy controls.”

Her work explores how the rapid growth of financial technologies has created confusion for users navigating digital currencies, payment platforms, and identity verification systems, raising important questions about how personal data is collected, used, and protected.

Vision for the Future

"Much work is needed in this area, with a focus on more transparency and risk assessment with the human rights of the individual in mind.”

Stephanie emphasizes the importance of transparency, stronger privacy protections, and increased public education around security and personal data within financial technology systems.
