Chenai Chair

Chenai Chair

Chenai Chair is a digital policy and gender expert whose work examines how technology affects women and gender-diverse people. She is the founder of My Data Rights Africa, a resource on data and digital technologies from an African feminist perspective, and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Africa Policy Research Institute (APRI). Her work covers digital identity, women's online rights, and data and AI.

Chenai Chair and Chiedza Kehle study the lived realities of immigrants in Gauteng, South Africa, who send money home through remittance platforms. Using a feminist, intersectional lens, they assess three platforms, Mukuru, Mama Money and HelloPaisa, on the value they offer users and on their data governance.

Their paper, Data for Financial Inclusion?, was published on My Data Rights Africa in August 2026, together with an educational game based on the traditional children’s game Nhodo.
