Coming Soon: 2027 Digital Financial Services Grant Opportunity

Julaire Hall

The Interledger Foundation is preparing to launch its revamped 2027 Digital Financial Services Grant Program, building on previous iterations with a stronger emphasis on implementation and real-world adoption.

Building on lessons from previous funding rounds, this year’s opportunity has been redesigned for financial service providers that are ready to move beyond early exploration and take concrete steps toward deploying interoperable payment infrastructure across markets.

For 2027, the grant will place greater emphasis on organizations prepared to adopt the Interledger technology stack, establish network connectivity, and pilot digital financial services with customers and partners.

The updated opportunity will also offer larger awards and a longer implementation period. Selected organizations may receive USD 350,000 over 18 months, with funding available to support technical integration, regulatory and compliance readiness, pilot deployment, and other related implementation costs.

Another key shift is the focus on implementation readiness. Applicants should be able to demonstrate the technical, regulatory, operational, and organizational capacity needed to move from planning to deploying and running real-world proof-of-concepts.

The Foundation will also consider geographic and network-building value in shaping the cohort, with particular interest in strengthening participation in Colombia, the wider Americas, and across multiple markets or regions where new integrations can create broader interoperability benefits.

Eligible applicants may include credit unions, savings and credit cooperatives, remittance providers, community development financial institutions, digital-wallet providers, and other regulated or regulation-ready financial service providers.

Applications for Phase  1 of the 2027 Digital Financial Services Grant will open on Monday, November 2, 2026. Full details on eligibility, application requirements, funding priorities, and the two-stage selection process will be available at launch.

This year, the focus is clear: move from exploring interoperability to building it in practice.
